Each year the Sustainability and Environment Team assists schools, community and Landcare groups by providing FREE indigenous plants and planting equipment (tree guards, stakes, weed mats).

Greater Shepparton City Council would like to invite your school or community group to get into nature and grow trees for Planet Ark’s NATIONAL TREE DAY. Each year the Sustainability and Environment Team assists schools, community and Landcare groups by providing FREE indigenous plants and planting equipment (tree guards, stakes, weed mats). Your planting day would not have to actually occur on Schools or National Tree Day (24, 26 July 2015),  but it does have to be registered on the National Tree Day website (http://treeday.planetark.org). Council could also promote your activities during our National Tree Day media campaign (if you would like us to).

Please complete the attached Expression of Interest Form and return this to me by 12 June 2015. There will be an evaluation process so please complete as much information as you can. Feel free to contact me to discuss your ideas, plans or any information on the form at any time.

The Sustainability and Environment Team would also like to take this opportunity to promote Council’s inaugural Environmental Sustainability Strategy. The Strategy outlines how Council can increase the environmental considerations in our decision making processes, improve our environmental performance and explores how we can strengthen partnership opportunities with stakeholders and the community to achieve positive environmental outcomes.

In short, I encourage anyone who is interested to pop into the Welsford St office and pick up a hard copy or download it (http://www.greatershepparton.com.au/environmental-sustainability-strategy). Please have a read and think about how Council can work with your school or local community on any environmental projects, ideas or opportunities.

I look forward to hearing from you about your exciting projects

 Regards,

Travis Turner, Sustainability and Environment Officer, Greater Shepparton City Council
